An RFC is Mexico's taxpayer registration identifier. A CURP is a population identity code. Having either one does not, by itself, settle your immigration status, fiscal residence, tax regime, or obligations. Begin with the activity you will carry out and your actual circumstances, then confirm the applicable registration route with SAT or a qualified adviser.

Before you book

  • Describe your work or income activity, where it is performed, when it begins, and whether you already have an RFC.
  • Record your immigration document and its validity. Ask SAT which registration procedure fits your circumstances; the linked SAT page describes registration for an individual resident abroad who will carry out economic activity, and lists an in-person appointment. It does not decide whether that route fits every foreign individual in Mexico.
  • Check the current document list directly on the SAT procedure page. It includes a current immigration document, acceptable proof of address, identity document, and additional documents for representation or foreign tax identification where applicable. The exact alternative depends on your case.
  • Bring originals and any translations or certified copies the current procedure requires. Do not assume a friend's checklist covers your situation.

At and after the appointment

The SAT page says the procedure is free and that a completed registration yields an acknowledgment containing the tax identification card and a guide to obligations. If documents are incomplete, ask for the written incomplete-submission acknowledgment and the current deadline to correct it. Keep the resulting acknowledgment in private storage and inspect the obligations actually assigned.

The SAT procedure for foreign individuals is the source for procedure and document details. The SAT fiscal-status page explains what a status certificate contains. Recheck both before acting because procedures change.

Questions for an adviser

  • Which registration route applies to my actual residence, activity, and income sources?
  • Which obligations and regime should appear after registration, and from which date?
  • Do I need an e.firma now, and how should I protect its signing materials?

This is orientation, not an eligibility ruling or an instruction to file. Confirm the current route with SAT and your adviser before acting.
